Join the Cast and Crew of Birth, The Team members of Georgia Friends Of Midwives, The organizers of BOLD, Our talk back panelist and our Honoree for good company and bountiful as well as wonderful food and drink. 

On both Friday and Saturday night of our BOLD Events we will hold our Honoree Galleria 1 hour before seating for the performance starts. 5:30 pm till 6:30 pm

 Friday night Honoree:

 Susan Hodges 

Susan Hodges, an activist for midwifery since 1985, is a founder and the current president of Citizens for Midwifery, a national grassroots organization promoting the Midwives Model of Care. She has been active with Georgia Friends of Midwives for many years. She is a member of the Consumer Panel of the Cochrane Collaboration's Pregnancy and Childbirth Group, a member of the Evidence and Action Committee of the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services, and she was a consumer member (1994-1996) of NARM’s Certification Task Force that created the Certified Professional Midwife credential. Most recently, she is co-chair of the Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) campaign to achieve federal recognition of Certified Professional Midwives as Medicaid providers. Susan has presented many workshops and talks; publications include: A consumer viewpoint: Challenges for Birth-Related Research. (BIRTH 27:4 Dec 2000). Her two children were born at home with midwives; Susan and her husband live in Athens, GA.

Henci Goer

 

Henci Goer

Henci Goer, award-winning medical writer and internationally known speaker, is the author of The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth. Her previous book, Obstetric Myths Versus Research Realities, is a highly-acclaimed resource for childbirth professionals, and a new edition is in press. An independent scholar, she is an acknowledged expert on evidence-based maternity care. Goer has written consumer education pamphlets and numerous articles for magazines as diverse as Reader's Digest and the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing. She served as project director and participated as an Expert Work Group member on the document, “Evidence Basis for the Ten Steps of Mother-Friendly Care.” Currently, she is a resident expert on Lamaze International’s website where she moderates the “Ask Henci” forum and appears as a regular guest blogger on Science and Sensibility. Now concentrating on writing and speaking, Goer was a doula (labor support professional) for over 20 years and a Lamaze educator for ten.
